Book Citation Index trial in Web of Science

BookCitationIndex.JPGPrinceton University Library has a trial to the Book Citation Index in Web of Science until June 7, 2012.  The Book Citation Index includes book content in science, social sciences, and the humanities from 2005 on. The Book Citation Index can be searched alone or with the full Web of Science by selecting the databases in the check boxes at the bottom of the screen. To try out the Book Index, simply visit Web of Science and start searching

Material Connexion trial until March 31st

Princeton University Libraries have a trial for the Material Connexion library until March 31st, 2011. Use the library to search or browse for materials by type, property, usage, process, and sustainability. Material information includes description of the material, manufacturing information, and basic properties. There are currently over 4,500 samples in the database, including: polymers, naturals, metals, glass, ceramics, process, cement-based, and carbon-based.

Reaxys Trial

Princeton University Libraries have a one month trial subscription to Reaxys, "a web-based search and retrieval system for chemical compounds, bibliographic data and chemical reactions." (About Reaxys)

Reaxys provides information from the essential chemistry databases Beilstein (organic) and Gmelin (inorganic) as well as chemical patent information. Gmelin and Beilstein are currently available through the CrossFire software offered on computers in the Engineering and Lewis Library.

Springer Materials trial


Princeton University has a trial subscription to Springer Matrials, the new Landolt-Bornstein database. This database is a huge resource for physical and chemical data and inlcudes 165,000 substances and material systems, 3,000 properties, and 1,000,000 literature citations. The new interface inlcudes keyword and advanced searching, and the ability to browse by subject area, Landolt-Bornstein volume, or periodic table. The trial is available until January 29, 2010 at

IHS database trials

Princeton University has a trial subcription to two new databases from Jane's:


Jane's Sentinel Country Risk Assessments
A compilation of data on all UN sanctioned countries and territories which includes defense and security matters, but also extensive write ups on politics, leadership, international and domestic relations, demographics, economic information, infrastructure and other factual areas.

Jane's Terrorism and Insurgency Centre
News, analysis and records of over 200 terrorist groups. Daily updates from over 200 news services around the world (wire services, the Times [London], International Herald Tribune, magazines and journals); in depth analysis on major events of terrorist and counter-terrorism related issues and a robust collection of detailed information and a chronology of the groups themselves. Includes the major transnational groups, regional and local based groups, and also transnational criminal gangs or organized criminal groups.

ASM Alloy Phase Diagrams Center

Princeton University Libraries has a five day trial to ASM International’s Alloy Phase Diagram Center. This online tool “allows subscribers to explore, search and view more than 28,000 binary and ternary phase diagrams and associated phase data for more than 6,200 systems from their Web browsers.”

National Technical Reports Library from NTIS

Princeton University Libraries now has a trial subscription to the National Technical Information Service’s (NTIS) new online library, the National Technical Reports Library (NTRL). NTIS “serves as the largest central resource for [US] government-funded scientific, technical, engineering, and business related information available today.” Good through March 31, 2009, the NTRL trial offers access to 2.5 million records and over 500,000 Full Text PDFs from NTIS. The top ten subject categories in the collection are:
