Athabasca University recently released a free ESL app called Mobile ESL. It is divided into 86 sections. It covers basic grammar and has exercises. DraganDian is an iPhone app that allows for the user to look up words in Chinese (it is a Chinese/English dictionary). It has 160,000+ words and phrases including up-to-date words like slang and idiomatic expressions. The creators claim this is not a good dictionary if you are looking for medical or legal words in Chinese. You can draw a character with you finger and the dictionary will return the meaning and display the simplified and traditional characters , plus the pinyin, meaning, and part of speech. The app is by Innovative Language Learning, LLC and costs $1.99 at the iTunes store.
Stanford University has just made their course, iPhone Application Programming, available for free on iTunes U and pretty soon on YouTube.
