Blood drive: Greatest participation in ten years, becomes annual event

The two day blood drive in honor of Dan was an enormous success. In a note to Dan’s family, Carol Field, of the American Red Cross - Penn Jersey Region, wrote:

“This life celebration was a wonderful response to Dan’s memory; over 300 individuals came out to donate, and we collected 259 productive pints of blood that will serve the needs of 777 area patients. To add to the many gifts Dan brought to those who knew him, Dan has now brought the gift of life to so many. This is the greatest participation we have had over the past 10 years and such a wonderful tribute to Dan.

As one of his friend’s messages depicted through the words of a poet, ‘Let my name be ever the household word that it always was,’ and Dan’s life will continue to be celebrated each year through the annual ‘Dan Oberst Memorial Blood Drive’ in the Fall. Dan’s extraordinary life will be shared, remembered, and modeled by individuals he touched in life, and in death, by bringing the gift of life to others for years and years to come. On behalf of our patients, we express sincere gratitude for Dan’s immeasurable love.”
