Where: Panera Bread in downtown Princeton at 136 Nassau Street, Princeton, NJ

Shana tova u’metukah! We had a great time tonight at our Meet & Greet, with 20+ people in attendance, including tons of new members! A list of some of the items we discussed can be found below. If you have anything to add or couldn’t make it tonight but are interested in being more involved in JGAP, please send us an email at jgap@princeton.edu. We’d love to hear from you!

  • Mailing List: Monthly newsletter (or calendar on our blog site) with a list of all events (including those of interest organized by other Jewish groups or the Princeton CJL), and email reminders for JGAP events.
  • Shabbat Dinners: Potluck Shabbat dinners would be great, even during weeks when the CJL has meals. A separate room or table just for JGAP at the CJL for Friday night dinners would be fun.
  • Meetings: The JGAP Steering Committee will be meeting on the second Wednesday of every month at 7:45pm. If you’d like to attend, send us an email ahead of time!

Event Ideas:

  • Active: hiking, bowling (Hamilton or East Brunswick), scavenger hunt; organize transportation or carpooling ahead of time.
  • Shows: McCarter Theatre discounted tickets, block of tickets to AMC Theatres, movie screenings for modern Israeli or other films (Footnote was mentioned)
  • Learning: Jewish ethics learning series, or a TedX forum for JGAP with members talking about what they do or something they find interesting.
  • Tours: Princeton Art Museum Saturday morning private tour, Princeton historical walking tour, New Jersey winery tours/tastings
  • Volunteer Work: tutoring with HomeFront at Lawrenceville Public Library, volunteering at a local Food Bank
  • Kid-friendly events?
  • Ivy Inn trivia team (Tuesdays) or karaoke (Wednesdays/Thursdays)

If you have other event ideas, or are very interested in any of the above ideas and would like to help out or participate, let us know! We’re excited for these fun events and looking forward to seeing you all. As always, send any questions or comments to jgap@princeton.edu.

womenwalll1When: PASSED
Where: Panera Bread in downtown Princeton at 136 Nassau Street, Princeton, NJ

We’re excited to announce our 3-part JGAP learning series for this spring semester! Taught by the one-and-only amazing Rabbi Sara Rich, we’ll be looking at “Hot Topics in Judaism,” and hope you all will come enjoy dinner with us and join the discussions! We’ll be meeting at Panera at 7:15pm for dinner, and class will begin promptly at 7:45pm, so please try and make it by 7:15pm if you’re planning on joining us for dinner. *Dinner is free* (paid for by the Princeton CJL)!

The theme of our first session is religious pluralism in Israel. Who determines issues of religious status in Israel? How does this affect Israeli citizens and Jews in the diaspora? How did things get this way, and in what ways is this system likely to change in the future?

As with all of our events, all JGAPers are welcome, regardless of religious or political views. All of our classes in the past have been a huge hit, and we expect this year’s series to be no exception. Feel free to attend one or all of the classes (they are not dependent on each other). If you have any questions, comments, or requests, please email jgap@princeton.edu.

When: PASSED (Wednesday, March 27 from 8:00 – 11:00pm)
Where: Aaron Attermann’s house (email jgap@princeton.edu for address)

Our kosher for Passover matzah pizza party was a huge success, with 16 JGAPers in attendance, and lots of new faces! We certainly ate like we just escaped slavery! 🙂 A huge thanks to Aaron Attermann and Sloane Frost for their incredible pizza- and brei-making skills, and thanks to Aaron A. for hosting this event at his apartment. Thanks to everyone who made it out tonight!

We had matzah brei with maple syrup, margarine, and mango and strawberry jams. We also had delicious matzah pizzas with toppings varying from green peppers, onions and mushrooms to sun-dried tomatoes and even pineapple! Who knew matzah could taste this good?? Our attendees brought more wine than we could consume, salad, chocolate, and a number of other desserts. Thanks Jean for the incredibly delicious homemade kosher for Passover cake!

Stay tuned for more upcoming events. We look forward to seeing you all again, soon, and seeing more new faces in the future! As always, email jgap@princeton.edu if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions for future events. Chag sameach, and enjoy the rest of the holiday.

sederplate1Chag sameach! We hope everyone enjoyed their Passover Seders, whether they spent them with family and friends or at the Princeton CJL. We had tons of people at the Princeton CJL seders, and there were lots of different fun themes. The chocolate seder on Tuesday night was particularly delicious.

To keep in mind for next year, seders are free for graduate students (with a Princeton ID), and $18 for young professionals, which is very reasonable for the amount of food you’ll be eating. As with all other JGAP and CJL events, you are welcome to bring family and friends, but you must remember to register everyone.

Around seven people made it for brunch, and most of us headed over to the indoor ice skating rink at Mercer County Park for the afternoon, where a few more JGAPers met up with us. Skating was a blast! More pictures will be posted on our Facebook group soon. A few of us had never ice skated before, and in a few hours we were all making it around the rink. Super fun!
