Requriements and Schedule for Employer Participation
Requirements of participating employers and the designated 'Leader':
- Designate a senior executive in the company to serve as "Leader"
- Spend approximately 30 minutes per week with the student in a one-on-one mentoring role
- Provide a brief job description for the internship
- Provide financial compensation to the student, i.e., this must be a paid internship
- Assist students in identifying housing for the summer (referrals, etc.)
- Provide relocation assistance at the start & end of the internship (depending on the location of the internship)
- Provide prompt replies to the Center and the student during the candidate selection and interview processes
- Accept a visit by the program coordinator during the internship period
- Upon request, provide constructive feedback on the internship
Schedule & Deadlines:
- The application process for interested companies is now open. Companies may:
- January 11, 2008: Deadline for companies to provide full details of the internship opportunity
- February 13: REVISED Deadline for students to apply for Preparing to Lead internships
- February 15: Student applications are forwarded to the company for consideration
- February 20: Deadline for companies to notify the Center, indicating which applicants they wish to interview; Companies must also provide a detailed interview schedule at this time
- February 22: Selected students may begin to sign up for interviews
- February 25 to March 14: Interview period
- March 14: Deadline for companies to notify students of result of the interview process
Student applicants for the Preparing to Lead internships are required to submit a resume and a cover letter. The cover letter is addressed to the participating executive at the company. While the Center facilitates the application and interviewing processes, the company is expected to make all decisions regarding the selection of candidates for interviews, hiring, and compensation.
