The Man­u­scripts Divi­sion holds nearly 11,000 lin­ear feet of man­u­scripts, archives, and related research mate­ri­als cov­er­ing five mil­len­nia of recorded his­tory, from the ancient Near East to the present. Princeton has been col­lect­ing man­u­scripts since the late nine­teenth cen­tury and doc­u­ments many parts of the world, with empha­sis on Eng­land and West­ern Europe, the United States, Latin Amer­ica, and the Islamic world.
