something about elona
Elona has lived most of her "adult" life trying her hand at legal immigration. After two years in rainy Wales, she got deported to high pollen New Jersey despite having learned how to say schedule (shed-yule) and vitamins (vee-tuh-meens) and mastered the ability to drink gallons of tea at any time of the day. Since her attempts at adapting to capitalism at its best were inadequate she decided to give up on the I-have-more-deadlines-in-my-day-than-figners-and-toes-to-count-them-with lifestyle of a pre-med woodrow wilson school major at Princeton. Having missed the most "exciting" years of communism in Albania, where is a permanent resident (theoretically), she was looking for a country that would complement her practical expertise on making communism collapse with first-hand knowledge on how to start a revolution. A year working with Population Services International in Laos is bound to defy all/any of her expectations, but at least it will provide her with a year-long experience at being taller-than-average and possibly-tough-looking.

all about amy, pia style.
Amy is going to Vientiane, Lao PDR to work for IUCN, the World
Conservation Union. Amy graduated from Yale in 2004 with a degree in
history. Amy doesn't like to write in third person. I've spent my
first year as a "grown-up" registering voters in southern New Mexico,
fighting corporate evil in Philly, and cooking fantastic food in the
backcountry of the Southwest. I'm originally from Buffalo, NY, and I
love green chile, Carl Sandburg, and the spelling of the word
"Albuquerquian" (one who resides in Albuquerque, as I have for the
last several months). One time, I rode my bike from New Haven to San
Francisco. My birthday is a palindrome. Someday, I will own a beat-up
adobe red pickup truck with the old school F O R D logo. (It will run
on something other than gasoline.) My dog (as yet, imaginary) will sit
in the front seat, and we will drive the back-roads of New Mexico
listening to Hank Williams sing "Ramblin' Man". Before any of that
happens, I just have to find out if karaoke really is illegal in Lao
PDR.
