Homework Error

I've just finished checking last weekend's homework. We're learning the past tense right now, so students know that you generally add "-ed" and to take the "y" away and then add "-ied" if the letter before the "y" is a consonant. (Did you know that specific rule? I didn't until a few weeks ago.) They've also been studying a few exceptions, including "go --> went" and "do --> did." This gets a little confusing, as you can see below (#22):

Oops.

In case you can't make it out, this student wrote "He did his Grandarent on Tuesday." What makes the mistake even funnier (if that's the right word) is that my name is, of course, Tom. And no, that's not what I did on Tuesday.

I'm going to go over the correct answers with the students tonight, and though I don't plan on explaining what this particular sentence means, I hope they don't make the same mistake again.
