WordPress 4.7 deployed, Twenty Seventeen coming

This morning we deployed WordPress 4.7 to the OIT-managed WordPress environment.

One of the main new features of the new version is a brand new default theme, Twenty Seventeen. This theme is not yet activated across our network because I want to first create a child theme that includes the option to add the Princeton University branding to the footer. I will get this theme deployed by the end of next week.

One of the main new features is that the Custom CSS feature is now available in the WordPress Customizer, allowing live previews of CSS design changes. This builds off of the custom CSS feature that is part of the Jetpack plugin suite.

Julia, The growing pains of moving to the cloud hosting service delayed this a bit. I am excited to make this the default theme or new sites. The main feature I want to add is the customizable footer with the toggle-able Princeton logo. There are a few additional tweaks that then may come in a future release. Hopefully, I can release the child theme within a week.

I finally finished a Twenty Seventeen child theme, deployed it, and network activated it. I didn't change too much, other than making the header text stand out a bit more, adding a new default image, and adding the footer text customizer.
