On a gray Saturday in the Orange Bubble, the women’s soccer team put on a dazzling performance for their head coach, Julie Shackford. The Tigers recorded their 200th win under Shackford and had plenty of time to celebrate, scoring in the third minute and adding four more goals as goalkeeper Darcy Hargadon ’15 and her defense kept Brown scoreless.
The 5-0 margin of victory was the team’s biggest since 2012, and it may have been a sign of things to come. All the scoring was done by two sophomores: Haley Chow ’17 scored at 2:19 and 15:02, and just three minutes after Chow’s second goal Tyler Lussi ’17 netted the first goal of her hat trick. Chow’s first score came from well out of the box as Brown attempted to clear, and she headed in her second goal on a Natalie Larkin ’18 free kick.
Defender Lauren Lazo ’15 set up Lussi’s first goal of the night with a perfect cross. Lazo set up another cross 11 minutes into the second half, and Lussi found the net again after Mikaela Symanovich ’18 got control in front of the net and slipped the ball past a Brown defender and to her sophomore teammate. Lussi completed the hat trick in the 62nd minute, heading a long pass to herself and firing the ball off the far post and into the net.
Lussi now leads the team with nine goals, while Chow and Symanovich are third and fourth on the team in points with a combined four goals and four assists. In fact, except for Lazo’s five goals and team-high six assists and an assist from Catherine Hartigan ’16, all of Princeton’s production has come from underclassmen.
At 4-3-3 overall, the Tigers are unbeaten in the Ivy League (2-0-1) and tied at the top of the standings with Harvard and ahead of the Crimson with a goal differential of six. They have not lost since Sep. 21 and have outscored their opponents 12-3 since then, putting up four goals in a win over Lehigh Wednesday. Princeton will try to continue that run as it travels to New York twice in the next week, meeting up with Army Tuesday before taking on Columbia in its fourth game of the Ivy season next Saturday.

Men’s soccer also defeated Brown with flair on Myslik Field Saturday. After Cameron Porter ’15 netted a game-tying penalty kick in the 70th minute, the Tigers completed their comeback with just six minutes to go on Joe Saitta ’15’s first career goal. The Tigers ended the Bears’ four-game, 504-minute shutout streak and improved to 1-1 in the Ivy League, 5-3-2 overall.
The cleat was on the other foot as Colgate came back and earned a one-point victory over the footballteam, 31-30. The Tigers started with a bang as Dre Nelson ’16 ran back the opening kickoff for a touchdown. It looked like the subsequent failed two-point conversion attempt might not matter as touchdown passes from Quinn Epperly ’15 and Connor Michelsen ’15 gave Princeton a 23-21 halftime lead. Princeton scored just once in the second half, however, on a 12-yard run by Will Powers ’15, and Colgate drew ahead by one with a field goal early in the fourth quarter that ended up being the last score of the game.
Women’s volleyball fended off Brown to win in five sets Friday night. Brown tied it up to force a fifth set and nearly took the match, but with the score tied 19-19 Nicole Kincade ’15’s two straight kills sealed a dramatic Ivy win. The Tigers lost the following night in a three-set match against defending-champion Yale. They are now 4-1 in the conference and 9-6 overall.
