In the spring of 1975, Princeton womenâs rowing finished strong, placing second in the varsity eight at Eastern Sprints and fifth at the National Womenâs Rowing Championships, above, held on Lake Carnegie. PAWâs season wrap-up also noted that four Princeton women were competing for spots on the U.S. national team, in advance of the 1976 Olympics in Montreal, where womenâs rowing would be part of the program for the first time. Carol Brown â75 and coxswain Mimi Kellogg â76 made the team for Montreal, and Brown won bronze in the womenâs eight, becoming the first Princeton alumna to earn an Olympic medal.
This Sunday is a big day on the racing calendar for current rowers: The Princeton open women will compete at the Ivy League Championships in Pennsauken, N.J., while the menâs heavyweight and lightweight crews will row at the Eastern Sprints in Worchester, Mass. The lightweight women contested their Eastern Sprints May 3. Princeton won bronze in the first-varsity eight, finishing behind Radcliffe and Boston University.
