Committees

Rural Health Activism: Members of the Rural Health Activism Committee work with the VP of Rural Health Activism. This entails helping to plan at least one activism event relating to international rural health every two months (e.g. arranging for guest speakers, coordinating documentary screenings) and helping to keep the chapter up to date on other global health events of interest on campus. Members can assist in compiling monthly reports of service from chapter members as well as document the chapter’s rural health activism initiatives throughout the year (e.g. book club, conferences, service opportunities).

This entails publicizing all fundraising and activism events through multiple advertising venues and recruiting new members by publicizing the chapter through activity fairs, open hoses, email listservs, etc. Members can help maintain an updated chapter website/blog as well as the chapter Facebook page. In order to help foster a sense of community and teamwork among chapter participants, members can also help by planning occasional social events.

Fundraising: Members of the Fundraising Committee work with the VP of Fundraising. This entails helping to plan and coordinate at least one fundraising event every month (either on-campus or off-campus) in order to meet the yearly requirement set forth by TropicalClinics Headquarters and helping to keep track of the earnings from each fundraising event. Members can help find sponsors and/or donors for the various activities. Creativity of ideas is encouraged to help plan innovative fundraising events. This is a vitally important committee and all funds raised directly support TropicalClinics’ efforts to bring quality health care to the underserved women, children, and families in rural areas of developing nations, beginning in Kenya.
