Wonderful memories of him as Master at Butler College, where I worked in a student office job from 1998-02. Warm, funny, brilliant (goes without saying) and the consummate gentleman.
May Ted rest in peace. I have the fondest memory learning Latin and History with Ted. He was a dedicated teacher, patient, humorous, and always willing to help. I am sorry he has left us prematurely and express my deepest condolences to his family.
Just spotted notice of Ted’s passing in the Alumni Gazette, though I had wondered recently why so little had been heard of such a “scholar and gentleman” (a phrase he once used of TRR Broughton) for so long. He was the ideal supervisor – patient but sharp when necessary – for me. I must praise Prof Kasterton for helping to bring his final research to fruition.
