Michael Goldman, professor of English, emeritus, scholar of Shakespeare and Ibsen, accomplished poet and one of the most distinguished voices in American dramatic criticism, died at home in Manhattan on Aug. 17. He was 87.

W. Jason Morgan

William Jason Morgan, Princeton University’s Knox Taylor Professor of Geology, Emeritus and a professor of geophysics, emeritus, was a pioneer of the theory of plate tectonics. He died at home July 31.

Harry Frankfurt

Harry Frankfurt, professor of philosophy, emeritus, renowned for his scholarship on free will and moral responsibility, died from a number of causes, including congestive heart failure, at a care facility in Santa Monica, California, on July 16. He was 94.

William Howarth

William “Will” Howarth, professor of English, emeritus, and eminent Thoreau scholar and environmental humanist, died of interstitial lung disease at Penn Medicine Princeton Medical Center on June 6. He was 82.
