South Asia Cooperative Collection Development (2012)
Princeton is one of 18 institutions that participated in a 2012 South Asia Cooperative
Collection Development Workshop. This was a follow up to earlier 2010 and 2011
cooperative workshops. The 2010 workshop focused on de-duplicating monographic
profiles, and the 2011 workshop focused on reducing redundancy and increasing diversity in Library of Congress serial subscriptions. The 2012 workshop declared distinct niche institutional/individual strengths upon which future collection endeavors could focus.
Summary reports are available for all three workshops:
- South Asia Cooperative Collection Development Initiative Post-Workshop Announcement (2010)
- 2011 South Asia Cooperative Collection Development Workshop Summary Report and Outcomes
- South Asia Cooperative Collection Development Initiative 2012 Summary Report and Outcomes
As an outcome of the 2012 cooperative workshop, Princeton committed to Library of Congress profiles in the physical and biological sciences (including serials).

The attached Excel spreadsheet NewSAsiaBooksDec2012-Jan2013 contains a selected list of new South Asia related acquisitions at Princeton University Library for December 2012 through January 2013. This list (as well as future listings to be posted on this blog) includes titles received in Acquisitions that have not necessarily been cataloged at the time of posting–so catalog numbers are not included in this list.
The spreadsheet NewAcquisitionsLCIslamabadJan2013 includes a list of recent acquisitions from the Library of Congress-Islamabad. Both English and Urdu titles are included. For Urdu books, I have included (in the final column) a hyperlink to the WorldCat record.
The spreadsheet NewAcquisitionsLCDelhiJan2013 lists recent acquisitions from the Library of Congress–New Delhi office for the month of January 2013. This list consists of English language books in a range of subjects including some very nice art books, as well as works on economics/finance, anthropology, biology, and history.
The first step in locating any of these books is to check the Princeton University catalog. If the item has not yet been assigned a call number, submit an In Process request for the book.
At Princeton’s Graphic Arts collection, we recently acquired an art/poetry book Varsha by Ranjani Shettar. More details are on the Graphic Arts blog.
