Shabbat at Sloane/Shilpa’s (PASSED)

When: PASSED (Friday, July 13, 2012 from 6:45 – 11:00pm)
Where: Sloane & Shilpa’s house (email jgap@princeton.edu for address)

It was such an honor hosting our first Shabbat – thank you for helping make it so special! We had over 20 guests arrive in time for Shabbat dinner. Thank you to Matthew Feldman and Aaron Blankstein for leading us in Kabbalat Shabbat and Ma’ariv services (respectively)! We had conservative services start at 6:45pm, and we provided Shabbat candles, siddurim from the Princeton CJL, Hebrew transliterations, and extra kippot (yamulkas).

We had a kosher milchig (dairy) dinner at 7:45pm. We served salmon, green beans with garlic, and couscous (thanks for the compliments!). Sloane made amazing honey and date challah, mmm. Thank you to our guests for bringing wine, hummus and veggies, cookies and other desserts. We look forward to seeing you at our next Shabbat, which will be held at Sara & Ezra Rich’s home in Highland Park, NJ. See the July 27 Potluck Shabbat Event Post for more information. Shabbat Shalom!

Email us at jgap@princeton.edu! We look forward to seeing everyone again soon at our next event.

Thanks to all of those who came to (one/all of) Rabbi Sara Rich‘s Jewish Ethicist classes this semester! We had a ton of fun learning Jewish ethics through case studies covering topics ranging from kosher certification and online dating/identities to bar confrontations and taking moral stances. All of our (several!) attendees loved this education series and our group discussions on these topics. Dinner at Panera was provided for all attendees by the Princeton CJL.

We hope that you continue to enjoy our JGAP classes! Our next series will be during the Fall 2012 semester, so check back for updates regarding where, when, and what the series will be. As always, shoot us an email at jgap@princeton.edu if you have ideas for a future class or event.

            Tuesday, November 22, 2011 from 8:00 – 9:30pm

            Tuesday, December 6, 2011 from 8:00 – 9:30pm

Rabbi Sara Rich‘s Radical Torah class this semester was a total hit. The class description:

“Oh no he didn’t!! Oh yes, he did…You would not believe what some of Judaism’s most mainstream, most highly-revered scholars and rabbis have said about our sacred texts. Come learn and discuss ideas so shocking that you may never have guessed they come from traditional sources. Iconoclasts, rebels, and smart-mouths of all levels are welcome.”

Dessert was included as part of this JGAP learning series, and we hope to continue to include food in our future JGAP education series events. More information about our Spring 2012 JGAP class will be available shortly. If you have education series suggestions or ideas, shoot us an email at jgap@princeton.edu. Thanks for coming!
