Although he has not been well for a while, the survey research community lost a giant last weekend. After he had a distinguished private sector career, I hired Herb Abelson to help launch the Princeton University Survey Research Center over 25 years ago. He served on our advisory board when the Survey Center was just an idea. To my surprise, after our first meeting he called me to say he would like to throw his hat in the ring to be considered to be Associate Director. Herb did an excellent job launching the Center. He was a tremendous help to students, administrators and faculty who sought his advice for survey research. My condolences to his family and friends.
