JENNIFER FAITH EDELSTEIN
Born and raised in New York City, Jennifer Faith Edelstein, called “Jen” or “the animal” by most of her friends, is a true city girl at heart. It was her love of New York City, as well as her admiration of Childe Hassam’s paintings, that inspired Jen to research Hassam’s flag series and his portrayal of New York City during World War I. In completing this project, Jen learned much about New York City’s architectural, social and cultural history and now has an even greater appreciation for the place where she grew up.
However, while she does love and, at times, misses the city, Jen is greatly enjoying her time here in the suburbs as a member of Princeton’s marvelous class of 2009. While she is unsure of what department she will major in, Jen can confidently say that her major will not be in the fields of math or science and that her current interests are in the subjects of history, politics and art history. Other than her academic interests, Jen greatly enjoys tutoring for the SATs through the Let’s Get Ready program, being a member of Princeton Model Congress, and generally hanging out with her friends.
Prior to attending Princeton University, Jen studied at The Brearley School, a private all-girls school whose mascot was the beaver, for 13 years and graduated from there in 2005. During her time at Brearley, Jen avidly studied Latin (and even went to Rome, to “Latin Camp,” one summer) and spent much of her free time eating several daily lunches in the cafeteria. She also played on both the Varsity Volleyball team and the New York City Junior Volleyball Association’s team, even though she is only 5’3” and was significantly shorter than many of her teammates.
To share a bit about her personal life, Jen has two younger siblings, Hilary and Matt, whom she loves to hang out with and annoy at times. She also enjoys going swimming, going shopping with her mother, playing tennis with her father, and bowling. Her favorite food is ice cream, especially mint chocolate cookie and coffee toffee crunch flavored ice cream, and she bakes really good cookies. She loves random 80s and 90s music dance parties in the dorm room at night, and getting dressed up, as well as pina coladas and getting caught in the rain.
