To conclude, I created a sonnet to commemorate the women of the Great Depression.
This sonnet is a tribute for the strong,
The ones who faced adversity, unshook,
Your silent strength will not be silent long.
The children and the house: you must take care,
You work with what you have and must adapt,
Emotion work, you must, without doubt, bear,
To hide your fear, but strength you must project.
But wait, what’s this? The men are unemployed,
The wages low, so work you must as well,
Determined stay to keep your loved ones buoyed,
Now extra work, but you must not long dwell.
My dearest, I take my hat off to you,
For you in disaster become the glue.
