 Timeline of the Events

April 15, 2013

9 AM – 10:40 AM- The 117th Boston Marathon begins, with different divisions being sent out in waves at different times.

Boston Marathon Bombing2:49 PM- Two bombs explode at the finish line on Boylston St.  As rumors spread that the explosions were caused by terrorists, the White House releases a statement that the attack is being treated as an act of terrorism.

Carlos Arredondo is picture in the cowboy hat.

2:50 PM- Carlos Arredondo, father of a deceased war veteran, becomes known as one of the heroes of the bombings after he helps save numerous people.  The iconic photo with Jeff Bauman is taken.

3:00 PM- A Boston fireman comes across the body of 8-year-old Martin Richards and his younger sister, who lost a leg.  EMTs take the young girl to the hospital, where her injuries are treated.

3:30 PM- At least two more unexploded bombs are found near the finish line and disarmed.

4:19 PM- CNN reports that there are 2 dead and 199 injured.

4:30 PM- President Obama speaks, vowing to bring those responsible to justice.

7:00 PM– Mourners gather overnight to commemorate the two victims Martin Richards and Krystle Campbell.

April 17, 2013

Authorities identify potential suspects in the bombings, leading to “witch hunts” for the suspects on websites such as 4chan and Reddit.  Hospitals report that numerous people who were injured had to receive amputations.

April 18, 2013

SeanCollier5:00 PM- FBI releases pictures of the two main suspects: Dzhokar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev.

11:00 PM- MIT police officer Sean Collier is shot dead in Cambridge, presumably by the two suspects.

April 19, 2013

Early hours- The two suspects hijack a car at gunpoint and take the driver as a hostage, intending to escape to New York. The suspect escapes and helps authorities track down the suspects.  A massive chase ensues, while the suspects toss explosives from the car. Police and the suspects engage in a gunfight; Tamerlan Tsarnaev is killed while his younger brother escapes.

Daytime– The Greater Boston area is put on lockdown while authorities search for Dzhokhar. Everything is shut down, from businesses, to taxi services, to even Logan airport.

6 PM- The lockdown is lifted.

9 PM- A Watertown resident goes to check on his boat and finds blood inside; he then tells the authorities. Shortly after, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is captured.  Immediately following his arrest, celebrations break out throughout all of Boston.
