[EVENTS] Moon Festival Registration Open: DUE SEPT 4

Moon Festival registration will be open for the next 10 days – until Tuesday, September 4. Register here!

We haven’t hammered out all the details yet (we need to do that when we get back on campus, September 10) but it will be both similar to and different from Carnival last spring, approximately 2-8PM on Saturday, September 22.

[BLOG] Documentary: Somewhere Between

Since she knows I run this program, my friend highly suggested I check out this documentary about Chinese transracial adoptions, called “Somewhere Between.” There are a few limited screenings over the next few months, with one in NYC on August 24. I won’t be free that day, but it looks worth checking out for anyone who can! She and the girls will be available for questions, too!

Blurb: This film follows the lives of four teenaged girls adopted from China and now living in the United States. In profiling Chinese adoptees in contemporary America, Linda Goldstein Knowlton has created a deeply moving documentary illustrating that even the most specific of experiences can be universally relatable.

[EVENTS] Night Market (4/27) and Communiversity (4/28)

UPDATE 4/29: Communiversity pictures here

This upcoming weekend is very exciting for Princeton!!!

Friday, April 27 is our annual Asian Night Market. all the Asian groups on campus gather together to sell food and do performances. There will be 12 groups with tables/food stands, and I don’t even know how many performers – they will include bhangra dancing, sympoh (break dancing), Triple 8, and Japanese taiko drumming. The headlining act is this half-Taiwanese youtube artist Mree! CSA will have a table as usual. Continue reading

[EVENT] Sympoh Urban Arts Crew

Princeton’s breakdancing crew Sympoh is having their annual show! It’s pretty cool to watch, and most of the members are Asian-American.

Please be in contact with your mentors about this. I don’t want to make this another big event like Triple 8, just because we are all so busy at this time with Auction the week before the and the Carnival the week after.

So – contact me about getting tickets, etc. if and only if your mentor is unresponsive and/or can’t buy you tickets but you would like to attend.

They haven’t released full details yet, I will keep you posted! I know there will be performances Thursday, Friday, and Saturday… that’s all they have said so far

[EVENT] Registration for CARNIVAL: Saturday, April 14

Registration for the carnival will be open from now until Thursday, March 29. This deadline is FIRM.

Again, the event will be Saturday, April 14. We don’t have the exact schedule planned out yet but it will be approximately 10AM-4PM. We are planning to have some arts and crafts, some games, workshops (dance, etc.) and then a talent show. Lunch is, of course, included!

Also – and this is important – much to our disappointment, we ran into roadblocks at every single funding venue at Princeton. Somehow, this activity did not neatly fall under any of their jurisdictions. We are working on a couple last resorts right now, but it does look like we will be getting $0 in funding so we will probably have to charge a $20 fee per child. One of the departments said that we can apply again for funding if certain families indicate the $20 fee will be a hardship, so feel free to let us know if you feel the cost will be difficult!

[EVENTS] Upcoming Events

Mark your calendars!

1) CSA is having their 2nd annual DATE AUCTION on Friday, March 30. We will be selling dates for the American Cancer Society!
CAPS mentees are welcome to attend (it’s free!)

2) An all-day CAPS event with workshops, performances, etc. tentatively planned for Saturday, April 7 (Easter weekend) April 14

3) Princeton TASA will be having their annual Night Market event on Friday 4/13 OR 4/20. It’s the biggest Asian group event of the year, it’s always super crowded and popular. I’m a bit hesitant to invite mentees just because it’s so crowded already
