butler roof copy.jpgProof positive that a green roof can yield energy savings are in these thermograph readings recorded atop the new Butler College, which was dedicated September 24. In June, readings for the conventional roof, left, hit 107 degrees Fahrenheit while those for the green roof, right, topped out at 88 degrees.

Intro to Academic Challenges

Politics lecturer Diane Snyder is leading The Rest of the Story: The Six O’Clock News, National Security, Intelligence, and You, a look at current events from conventional and unconventional sources, including comics’ monologues. The Freshman Seminar program introduces students to the excitement and rigors of Princeton academics. Topics range from hedge funds to art in Africa to climate change.

Princeton, Here We Come

princeton here we come.jpgAlmost 800 members of the Class of 2013 are backpacking, canoeing, biking or digging into the rigors of sustainable farming on an Outdoor Action Frosh Trip before trading the wide-open spaces for a dorm room, participation in Opening Exercises on September 13, and the adventure of campus life.

Hold the Laugh Track

Comedian Chevy Chase took a brief break before addressing the Class of 2005 on Class Day. Maybe he contemplated where he fit in the line-up of laugh-makers and satirists who had stepped to the microphone on campus before him—vaudevillian Paul (Mousie) Garner, Chris Rock, Jon Stewart, Margaret Cho, Al Franken, Garrison Keillor, Bill Cosby, and Jerry Seinfeld.
