A Night to Remember

Call it "coming attractions": Although George Washington's first visit to Princeton occurred 10 days later (when American troops successfully defeated British adversaries at the Battle of Princeton), his December 25, 1776, crossing of the Delaware River is memorialized on campus. Trivia alert - do you know where on campus this frieze is?

Using GFP - green fluorescent protein - gives new meaning to the phrase "you light up my life." GFP is used as a "tag" allowing scientists to track all sorts of cellular processes under a microscope. Members of the Class of 1968 recently learned about GFP and genetic coding from David Tank, Henry L. Hillman Professor in Molecular Biology and co-director of the Princeton Neuroscience Institute, in a neuroscience seminar the class hosted.

Who says a painting has to be on canvas? Clare Arentzen '14 experimented with expanding the concept using plexiglass, embroidery floss, radiator grills, and chain to create "Transparent Politics" in lecturer Pamela Lins' recent Lewis Center for the Arts course.

Health Watch

DSC_0857_clinic.jpgDuring a summer internship in the Philippines, Woodrow Wilson School MPA student Kerry Brennan helped monitor a government program that received technical assistance from the World Bank. Her photographic record, including this image of the Aramaywan community health clinic in Libacao, Aklan province, is on view in the Wilson School's Bernstein Annex Gallery through December.
