The Princeton Experience: Equestrian Team

While horses used to draw snowplows and other equipment on campus, today they jump, trot, and canter for the Princeton Equestrian team. Here, Amy A. Maletz ‘08 rides at a weekly team practice. The Princeton Equestrian team is one of about 40 club sports active on campus.

The Princeton University Band, in traditional uniforms, helped lead the volunteer “charge” during the Aspire kickoff weekend in November. The band, founded in 1919, is one of over 200 student-run organizations on campus.

Traditions: Freshman-Sophomore Snowball Fight

Princeton had its first snowfall of the season this week bringing winter fun and games to campus. But some traditions die hard: The freshman-sophomore snowball fight of 1892-93 left Darwin R. James, John P. Poe, and Arthur L. Wheeler of the Class of 1895 looking like disconsolate pugilists. Did they sit for this portrait to bear witness to their bravery in battle or to protest the practice of filling snowballs with rocks? No one knows now.
