FitzRandolph Gateway was erected through a bequest from Augustus van Winkle in honor of his ancestor, Nathaniel FitzRandolph, who gave the land on which Nassau Hall was built. Among other campus additions from bequests are Thomson College, the central quadrangle now commonly known as the Old Graduate College, Jadwin Gymnasium, and Sherrerd Hall.

I haven't seen the FitzRandolph Gate yet but on my next trip East I will certainly stop and gaze at the gate. My grandfather Alois Preston FitzRandolph didn't attend Princeton but he did make a big contribution to the education of children.

He was a school teacher in rural West Virginia, riding his horse from one single-room schoolhouse to the next on his rounds. Besides teaching elementary and high school students in the same room, he taught the older kids how to teach their younger colleagues.
Cheers Princeton!
